Andy Macdonald Rides Forty in the Olympics
Andy Macdonald Rides Forty in the Olympics
Well... what can we really say? I think you’d have to have been living under a rock not to have been aware of Andy’s qualification and participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Now that the dust has settled on what was a pretty historic moment for skateboarding in general (noting that this was the first skateboard event at the games to have spectators following it’s initial inclusion at the last games in Tokyo) and for Andy personally, we now able to ascertain the positive impact it has had on the industry as a whole.
Andy competed in the mens park competition despite turning 51 years old during the games having qualified via his last run at the last qualifying event recently in Budapest. I think it’s safe to say, that with the direction of travel and the continual rapid progression of skateboarding, I do not think we are likely to see another feat, and frankly incredible achievement like this in Olympic skateboarding again. Truly remarkable.
Skateboarding, and Andy’s story in particular was thrust into the public eye with a large amount of mainstream media coverage featuring photos across most UK national tabloids, in both printed media and online coverage as well as a large portion of BBC coverage following his journey. To say that we got caught on the hop would be an understatement as we sent Andy’s guest pro board out to a record (for us) 13 different countries including Denmark, Germany, Italy, Australia and New Zealand to name a few. Something, that us as a brand are extremely grateful for and appreciative in your understanding in getting these processed and sent out to you.
Andy Mac: A Skateboarding Icon
Andy Mac has been a massive global influence in the skateboarding world for decades. He has been a mainstay in the competition circuit and is a multiple X-Games medals winner, which is testament to his dedication, perseverance and love for skateboarding has enabled him to continue to remain relevant for well over 3 decades.
Andy’s Forty board
It’s fairly common knowledge these days that the pre-requisite for a Forty board hinges on not only ability and achievements on a skateboard but also the contribution and commitment to skateboarding itself; often for what has been for large periods of its history a relatively thankless task. With this, Andy has always hit solid 10’s across the board for all prerequisites so he was a natural fit for a guest pro board. We are absolutely honoured that Andy agreed to do a project with us with the boards popularity being testament to the respect he holds within the industry and wider community.
Andy's Olympic Highlights
Where to start? Watching Andy MacDonald hit the Olympic stage has been inspiring to say the least. I cannot recall any skateboarding event that has grabbed the attention of the mainstream media quite like this years event, and Andy was for large parts, front and centre of that attention, certainly within the UK. His appreciation for his opportunity, and genuine gratitude for the experience were obvious to see as we all went along with him for the ride.
